Adapting to Sea Level Rise

Secondary, Middle

Description

Adapting to Sea Level Rise brings us to Indian Island First Nation that is on a peninsula surrounded by water. Through a combination of traditional knowledge and scientific studies, it became clear to Chief Ken Barlow that this community would be underwater by 2100. Barlow and his community are in a race against time to protect homes, raise roads, and potentially even relocate the graves of their ancestors.

During this video, Chief Barlow takes us through events that flooded the community and the efforts that they have since put in place to reduce the risk of future flooding.

This video is available in English with both English and French closed captioning.

General Assessment

Recommendation of how and where to use it

Adapting to Sea Level Rise would be a great introduction video when discussing the affects of global warming on our planet and how this affects coastal communities.
